Information Technology enhances the Lifeline Express
(February 2002)

The Patients' Records And Management System (PRAMS) is now fully computerised on the Lifeline Express. The system was installed while the train was in Korba, Chhattisgarh. A young and enterprising team comprising Bindya Jain, Pranav Vashisht, Niranjan Shanbhag, Avinash Lohit and Karan Chopra developed the software package. Impact India is full of admiration for this young group who spent long hours on the Lifeline Express in very remote areas.

They held detailed discussions with a wide spectrum of people in order to make an exhaustive study of the existing procedures. The effort put in by the team has resulted in a user-friendly package, which not only facilitates the systematic and simplified collection of data but also generates visual representation in the form of graphs. This will aid in evaluating, analysing and monitoring the various disciplines performed on the Lifeline Express. It can also be used as a decision support tool for planning future projects.
