Impact India was delighted to host the visit of Melissa Wells, former US Ambassador, and former United Nations Under Secretary General and now Impact’s World Ambassador.
Mrs. Wells was accompanied by her husband, Alfred Wells. In Mumbai at a function organised by the Indian Federation of United Nation’s Associations & Maharashtra United Nations Association Mrs. Wells was introduced to H. E. the Governor of Maharashtra, S.M. Krishna by Impact’s Trustee Mrs. Pheroza J. Godrej at Raj Bhavan.
Mrs. Wells spent a day at the Community Health Initiative in Talasari where she handed over a token packet representing the Rubella vaccines donated by AmeriCares to the Government. She also complimented the School Health Monitors on their excellent work in promoting cleanliness, health and hygiene amongst their peers and parents and warmly appreciated the little children who had undergone free cleft surgeries at Impact’s referral hospitals. She met patients who were operated for Cataracts, free of cost, at the Hasanali Tobaccowala Eye Centre, Talwada and was particularly impressed by the first ever corneal transplant conducted there. She concluded her trip with meeting the villagers at Katkaripada and disributing T shirts to the Anganwadi children.
Mrs. Wells ended her visit to Impact by visiting the Lifeline Express at Sagar, Madhya Pradesh State On November 10th. Attired in a sterilised gown, mask and cap she entered the Operation Theatre to observe surgeries and praised the team of Surgeons and the Government for their excellent work in providing free of cost surgeries to the rural poor.
