The first issue of “Raksha”, the Newsletter of the Community Health Initiative, earlier known as the Disability Reduction Project, was released by R.M. Premkumar, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, at the 74th Lifeline Express Project at Palghar on May 21st.
The Newsletter is published to serve as a kind of ‘progress report’ of the Community Health Initiative (CHI), to win recognition of the roles played by the primary stakeholders of the programme - the Government, Funding agencies, Resource persons and others, with whom Impact has created links, for the CHI; to inform them of the efforts being planned or required, of the resources available, and so on. It is also aimed at the corporate sector, to recount the progress made so that they may be inspired to sponsor various components.
“Raksha” is a Sanskrit word denoting protection, fortification and security. The word has been appropriately selected as the title for the Newsletter of the CHI. The project aims to protect the rural poor from avoidable disablement.
