A meeting by chance culminates in a dance!
( July 2001 )

Life often springs unexpected bounties in pleasant surprises for us. An accidental meeting on a plane journey some years ago between Zelma Lazarus and Patrick Rosario of New York led to a strong partnership, as Patrick , inspired by the activities of the Lifeline Express, decided to establish Project Nirvana with Impact.

History seemed to repeat itself a few weeks ago when Zelma met with Mahesh Pande again on a plane journey from London to Mumbai. As it turned out, Mahesh is a gifted and highly qualified Indian classical dancer. Having trained under
J. Krishnamurthi, Mahesh has dedicated his talent to teaching young children both in India and abroad, to propagate social messages through the medium of dance.

This time too, a chance meeting proved to be a new and valuable friendship. Mahesh, enthused by the work of the Lifeline Express, decided to contribute his talents to our cause as well. The friendship was sealed when he visited the Impact India office to celebrate the Express' Tenth Anniversary. The result is the poem that follows dedicated to Impact, for you to see and enjoy...

We have lived here and learnt.
And here we have dreamt.
And because we have been young,
We have dreamt of fantastic possibilities and of
impossible things;
And it is in our innocence that we have believed
in them.

Now it is almost time for us to grow up
And even as we grow, we will learn;
And as we learn, they might tell us that what we
had thought was wrong.
Then we have to decide….
Whether we wish to grow out of our childhood
or we wish to grow up to it….

Let us never learn so much that we unlearn the
joys of wonderment and dreams-
Let us never be so afraid of being wrong
that we refuse to do what we think is right
And let us always be willing to put all our
earnings for a handful of stardust.

Because we were born as children of God, and it
is to this that we need to grow up to
Let us never forget what we know so well when
we were young
And some day, let us all grow up to find once
again, the child in us.”
