August 7th turned out to be a special occasion for the C.B.S.E. school children, many of whom had come on a holiday from as far away as Ambarnath, 80 kms away, to greet H.E. Mohammed Fazal, the Governor of Maharashtra who was to visit the Lifeline Express on that day. Regretfully, due to circumstances, the Railways were unable to place the train on the platform. The Governor then invited the children to his official residence at the Raj Bhavan, in the sprawling environs of Malabar Hill, where he addressed the group and spent much time with them. The children asked the Governor to use his good offices to get Impact India an additional coach for the Lifeline Express to double the capacity for surgeries, so that many more poor children in rural India would have their sight, movement, hearing restored, and cleft lips corrected, all free of cost. One of the awe-struck students said, “It is the good fortune of all the citizens of Maharashtra, to have such a caring Governor, who is ever sensitive to the feelings of the people. We wish he will be with us forever...” |
