Following the floods in Mumbai and other parts of India, Impact India Foundation received a large gift of essential medicines from the humanitarian aid organisation AmeriCares, USA. Value in the USA: $ 15,000,000.
While the bulk of the medical aid has been utilised for flood relief in Mumbai and other flood-affected areas in Maharashtra State, a part (value in the USA $ 2,000,000) was donated to the Rotary Club of Kakinada, West Godavari District, for distribution amongst the flood-affected in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh State.
The Rotary Club of Kakinada organised a function on October 6, 2005 to inaugurate the MEGA Health project for the distribution of the donated medicines in the tribal areas. The meeting was well attended by the District Health Officer and Medical Officers of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Rotarians belonging to the 84 Rotary Clubs that fall under RI 3020.
The District Health Officer was extremely happy to have received such a large quantity of medicines for the flood - ravaged areas. He felt more medicines were required as the Government quota was exhausted and a lot of area was yet to be covered.
Rtn. J.J. Manual, President, Rotary Club, acknowledged in his closing address, that never before had any club received medicines of such high value for distribution to the poor for which he was extremely grateful to Impact and for the faith reposed in the Club. |
